Christmas Market

The next market will be held on 28 November 2010.  The next two markets will have a Christmas theme, so there will be lots of Christmas goodies for sale.

The market will be held at the Sports Grounds of Jeppe High School for Girls (cnr Roberts & Lancaster Ave, Kensington) from now on.  This will be a great venue.  Stallholders can put their gazebos under the trees and there is safe parking inside the grounds.  The site is also more visible from the street, so there should be more passing trade through and hopefully we will have even more people and more stallholders than we had at the previous market.

People are starting to know about the market, so it can only grow from strength to strength.

The Market

For too long Rhodes Park has been associated with crime, grime and deterioration, much of this being perception related.  Part of ILKA’s mandate is to develop our community and assist in drawing Kensingtonians and visitors to our area, back into our public spaces thus taking back our village in the city.   As a team, we put our heads together to look at ways in which we can achieve the goal of making Rhodes Park the centre of Kensington again, a place where we can all relax and enjoy this amazing resource.  One of the solutions was to set up a farmers and crafters market that would bring people back into our park while bringing together local artists and culinary experts to sell their wares.  The market has certainly started making an impact and although small at this point, it is growing in reputation and thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, is about to take off.  Thankfully we have the full support of Johannesburg City Parks which has given the organising committee the freedom to grow the market.

This blog is part of the marketing strategy that aims to showcase the amazing talents of our stall holders while giving anyone the space to share their thoughts and ideas around the market.  I would like to encourage you to support this amazing initiative as we continue to make Kensington the best suburb to live in in Jozi.
